Pendle Hill
Pendle Hill rises 557 metres above sea level and is one of the Lancashire’s most famous landmarks. It is best known for its connections with the Pendle Witches and their subsequent trial at Lancaster Castle, and every Halloween many people visit to climb it. The 45-mile Witches Trail is a popular walk that follows the route the witches took from their villages to Lancaster Castle. A map of the route is available from Clitheroe Tourist Information Centre.
Clitheroe lies around 4 miles to the east, while Burnley is 5 miles to the south. If you don’t fancy climbing the hill there’s a wealth of charming villages in the area including Downham, Barley, Sabden and Roughlee.
