Whalley
Whalley sits on the banks of the River Calder and is one of the Ribble Valley’s most attractive villages.
The Whalley Viaduct lies to the west of the village, and with 48 brick arches is the longest railway viaduct in Lancashire. It was built in 1850 to carry the Blackburn to Clitheroe railway across the River Calder.
The village is however, most famous for Whalley Abbey, built for Cistercian monks in the 14th century and now a popular tourist attraction.
