Southport Attractions
Southport took a big blow with the closure of one of its main tourist attractions, Pleasureland, in September 2006. However the theme park has now been reopened as the New Pleasureland by Dreamland. Other new developments in the town include Splash World, an £8 million water park with tube and lazy river, rides, slides and more.
Southport also plays host to a good selection of events. These include the Southport International Jazz Festival, North West Motor Show, Woodvale International Rally, Southport Flower Show, Southport Weekender, 24-hour Yacht Race, Southport Air Show, Musical Fireworks Championships, and Comedy Week.
The town is also known for its good shopping, Lord Street with its Victorian arcades being the most popular area. The recent pedestrianisation of Chapel Street has provided another pleasant retail area.
Leaflets and further information about these attractions can be obtained from the Southport Tourist Information Centre.
