New Pleasureland, Southport
New Pleasureland is a fun fair in Southport. It boasts a good selection of rides, stalls, and amusements and enjoys a great seafront location.
Rides
Rides at New Pleasureland include the Pirate Ship, Wild Cat (similar to the Wild Mouse at Blackpool), the Ghost Train, the Ice Maze, Frisbee, Waltzer, and Ski Jump. The Battlefield Live combat game is also here.
Most of the rides are not fixed so the list is subject to change.
There are also plenty of smaller children’s rides, stalls, and an amusement arcade.
Opening Times
New Pleasureland is open every weekend bank holiday and during school holidays from the beginning of April until the end of October. Opening times are noon until late.
Admission Prices
Unlike many competing theme parks such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach, entrance to New Pleasureland Southport is completely free.
Tokens must be purchased to go on the rides and cost £1 each. Rides cost 1 to 3 tokens. Tokens are valid until the last day of the season. The fair does not sell wristbands.
Facilities
Facilities include car and coach parking, toilets, baby changing facilities, and cash machines.
Location & Directions
New Pleasureland is located on Marine Drive on Southport seafront. Owners of satellite navigation systems should use the postcode PR8 1RX to find it.
History
The original Pleasureland opened in 1912. It was owned by the Thompson family of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. In 2006 the theme park suddenly closed its doors. The owners cited competition from publicly-funded attractions and Sunday shopping as reasons for the decision. Many blamed the failure of the park on an earlier decision to introduce an entrance fee.
After the closure the Cyclone rollercoaster was demolished and the Traumatizer was moved to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and renamed infusion. Most of the other rides were sold to other theme parks, mainly to Dreamland in Margate and Lightwater Valley in Ripon.
Reviews / Comments / Additional Information
It was dull and like a ghost town. The only rides were like the ones you see outside chip shops for young children. I would not advise Pleasureland.

Why people say the Pleasure Beach is expensive I do not know. It's not expensive you can book online for your wristband and get about a £10 knocked off the price, buy a season pass for the year and gets you unlimited rides throughout the year and its definitely worth it. If you go to Alton towers they even charge you £5 to use there car park and plus £30 an adult to get in. I don't even like Alton Towers as there is far too much walking and the cable cars are to slow.
I do admit Blackpool is tacky going up north but round the Pleasure Beach its not. Please support the £5 charge at the Pleasure Beach next year. Don't let it end up like Pleasureland Southport and Frontierland Morecambe.
R.I.P Pleasureland and Frontierland.
Yes the same applies to Alton Towers the difference being there a much bigger company and if you don't like rides you can walk around the gardens and enjoy the view. The bottom line is that the owner hasn't leaned her lesson because she is adding the wristband rule to Blackpool next year.
It was an amazing day and me and my friends used to stay all day then spend some of the night in the local food places, that are now surely loosing out!
I am now 16 and not allowed to Blackpool due to the "seedy" atmosphere of the pier, and I must admit I went with my mum, step dad and step sister last year, and was shocked by what I saw. Blackpool is badly located and FAR too expensive, not to mention the queues. Sort it out Pleasureland owners! WE WANT OUR SOUTHPORT BACK!
To me Southport is a tourist resort. It’s got the pier, the penny arcade, the fun pool, the model village/railway etc. An amusement park is the King on the Throne so to speak. People are in the area for the amusement park may well patronize these other attractions. I fear that if we completely loose Pleasureland, Southport will loose a lot more than just a theme park.
A fantastic, value for money place, never to be the same again.
I hope someone (privately owned) does re-open the place and it make an absolute fortune!!!!
REST IN PEACE PLEASURE LAND!!!!!!!
