Grand Central
Grand Central is a leisure and entertainment complex located close to Stockport train station. Major attractions here are the 10-screen Cineworld cinema and the Tenpin bowling alley.
The site is also houses Grand Central Pools leisure centre. It boasts the town’s only 50m swimming pool plus a gym and health suite. Stockport Metro Swimming Club, one of the most successful swimming teams in the UK, are based here.
In 2011 Stockport Council took out a £15 million mortgage and purchased the site from troubled property development company Targetfollow. The council hopes to attract more than £100 million of private investment funds to regenerate the complex.
Plans for the development include a hotel, high quality office accommodation, and car parking.
