JD Sports is one of the UK’s biggest sports fashion retailers. The first shop was opened at the Mill Gate Centre in Bury in 1981 by founders John Wardle (the ‘J’) and David Makin (the ‘D’) followed by a further store at Manchester’s Arndale Centre in 1983. Today the company has more than 400 shops throughout the UK.
Unlike many of its competitors JD doesn’t sell sports equipment, only sports clothing and trainers. Brands stocked include Adidas, Ben Sherman, Converse, Henri Lloyd, Kickers, Lacoste, Nike, Quiksilver, Reebok, Rockport, Sergio Tacchini, Timberland, and Vans.
