With a huge selection of retail parks and shopping centres, Warrington is a shoppers’ paradise. In 1987 Swedish furniture giant IKEA opened their first UK store in Warrington and until 2006 it was their only branch in North West England. It’s situated at the Gemini Retail Park, also home to the biggest Marks & Spencer outside London. Only the brave should venture here at the weekend as severe traffic jams are quite frequent.
The main shopping streets in Warrington town centre are Buttermarket Street, Horsemarket Street, Sankey Street, and Bridge Street, which all intersect at Market Gate. Here you’ll also find the Golden Square shopping centre, redeveloped in 2007 and housing around 150 shops.
