Britannia Wigan

Ignore the name, as this hotel is actually in Standish, a small town 4 miles to the north of Wigan.

Just off junction 27 of the M6 motorway, the Britannia Wigan offers 124 rooms, all with en-suite bathroom, TV, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, trouser press and hospitality tray.

The hotel also offers a restaurant, bar, health club (small fee payable) and on-site car parking.

Stopped overnight in a family room to attend a wedding. Room was a little dated but tidy. Staff were friendly and breakfast was plentiful and good.

I don't suppose this place would be everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it was ok for the money. The room could've been a bit cleaner, but it was ok where it mattered eg. bed and bathroom. I found the staff ok, but I do tend to make a bit of an effort as I worked in the industry when I was younger. For a place to sleep, it's all right.

This is a handy place to stay if you want to be near Wigan or Bolton. It's easy to get to and from the outside looks quite nice. For the price the room was ok as well, but some people might be put off by the faint smell of smoke in the room. The food didn't look very appealing, but there is a pub across the road that does food and drink.

Doubt if this is anyone's favourite hotel, but I think some of the reviews I read were a little unfair. I had a cheap basic room which was clean and comfortable and served its purpose. On top of that I found the staff friendly and efficient.

This place has definitely seen better days, but as somewhere to just get your head down for the night it's not that bad. Main thing for us was that the bed was clean and we got a decent breakfast in the morning to help us on our way.
