United Utilities own and manage much of the water supply network in North West England, including the chain of reservoirs running north from Rivington.
Their Great House Information Centre features exhibits relating to the Rivington area. There are displays about Liverpool Castle, Rivington village, and the history and purpose of the Rivington reservoirs.

The centre also offers a wide range of walking guides, books, maps, and tourist brochures. It is situated on Rivington Lane (postcode BL6 7SB), next to the Great House Barn and Go Ape.
The information centre was closed when we visited last month, so it was not possible to get hold of the promised map. As there are few, if any signposts around the estate, would it not be possible to put one on the website for downloading?
Stunning place but confusing for out of town visitors.
