Follow your nose to the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop and discover the most celebrated gingerbread on the planet. Tucked away in a corner of St. Oswald’s Church in Grasmere, this small shop has been serving up the legendary treats since the mid-19th century. Prior to this the building was the village schoolhouse, where Wordsworth once taught.

I had the privilege of living in the Lake District for 5 years and visited The Gingerbread Shop whenever I could. Every visit I always purchased the famous gingerbread and also various products, including a gingerbread spoon holder and various Christmas ornaments. I now live in Norfolk, but dearly miss the Lakes and the nostalgia of going to The Gingerbread Shop. It is a must to visit and I always know I will be going back there sometime in the future.
This is a great little shop, the kind you only find in the villages of the Lake District. The gingerbread IS very tasty and the best. Beware of cheap immitations and go for the best. It’s worth it.
