The Great Northern is an entertainment, leisure and retail complex on Deansgate in Manchester city centre. It’s situated in a building that was once the goods warehouse for Manchester Central Train Station.
Entertainment options here are the AMC Cinema, Manchester235, and All Star Lanes.
The AMC Cinema is one of only two cinemas in Manchester city centre (the other is the Odeon Manchester at the Printworks). It offers 16 screens (including 3D theatres) and an amusement arcade.
Manchester235 is a Las Vegas style casino with gaming tables, slot machines and a poker lounge. The restaurant here features the modern British cuisine of celebrity chef James Martin (star of Saturday Kitchen), while the Vega Lounge is a glamourous venue offering live entertainment at the weekends.
All Star Lanes offers a tenpin bowling experience for trendy, young professionals. The centre boasts eight lanes and an American style restaurant and cocktail bar.
Almost Famous is a burger joint catering to a hip young crowd. Its neighbour, Home Sweet Home opened in October 2015 and specialises in breakfasts, brunches, pancakes, and milkshakes.
The Lifestyle Fitness gym is also here and offers a great free weights section. Monthly membership rates are reasonable and day passes are available.
The Deansgate side of the Great Northern houses a range of businesses at street level. Occupants here at the time of writing (November 2015) include Pane Vino (Italian café), Leaders (estate agents), Suttons City Living (estate agents), Julie Twist Properties (estate agents), Peter Regan (hair salon), CP Hart (luxury bathrooms), The Tanning Lounge, Evuna (Spanish restaurant), Wesley-Barrell (upholstered sofas and armchairs), and Feather & Black (beds and bedroom furniture).
