Leigh Sports Village

Leigh Sports Village is one of the North West’s finest recreational and leisure complexes. Situated in Leigh, in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, it offers various sports facilities, a hotel, a pub, a supermarket, and a college.

Leigh Sports Village Stadium

The Leigh Sports Village Stadium is the centrepiece of the development. Built with the needs of professional sports clubs in mind, the stadium can hold up to 12,000 spectators, with seating options available in the West, East, and South Stands and standing room in the North Stand. This layout offers flexibility and gives every spectator an excellent view of the action on the field.

The stadium is the home ground for Leigh Leopards, the local professional rugby league team. It also hosts the home fixtures of football teams such as Manchester United Women and Manchester United Under-21s.

Leigh Sports Village Stadium’s playing surface is a high-tech pitch combining natural grass with artificial fibres to create a high-quality, durable, and weather-resistant field. Under-pitch heating is also installed to support playability in all weather conditions further. A computer-controlled water irrigation system ensures the playing surface remains in top condition.

Unsurprisingly, this exceptional facility has attracted numerous events over time. Prestigious tournaments held here include multiple Rugby League World Cup games and matches of the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship (Euro 2022). In 2014 it was one of the UK venues on Elton John’s Follow the Yellow Brick Road Tour.

Tickets for Manchester United Under-21s matches are free. They can be obtained in advance from the official Leigh Sports Village website.
