After leaving the Old Rectory in 1813, William Wordsworth moved to Rydal Mount, a couple of miles east of Grasmere. It was bigger than his previous house and reflected his newly found fame.
Wordsworth only rented Rydal Mount, but in 1969 his great great granddaughter purchased the house and opened it to the public.

Rydal Mount also has a large garden, designed by Wordsworth himself and little changed since his time. There’s a summer house too, with fantastic views of Rydal Water.
Wordsworth moved here from the Old Rectory after the death of his two young children.
