Stockport Plaza

Take a trip back to the golden age of cinema at Stockport Plaza, a Grade II listed building lovingly restored to former glory by a team of enthusiastic volunteers.

This Super Cinema opened in 1932 and offered the people of Stockport a mix of movies and theatrical performances. Between 1967 and 1999 it served as a bingo hall before being purchased by the Stockport Plaza Trust in 2000.

Today it offers a varied programme of musicals, classic films, comedy shows, theatrical and dance performances, pantomimes, and more.

Magical touches include a Compton Organ that rises out of the floor, providing the sound track for silent movies, musical interludes, and rounding off the evening with a rendition of the national anthem.

Stockport Plaza is located on Mersey Square in Stockport town centre, close to the Merseyway Shopping Centre and the bus station, and 5 minutes walk from the train station.

  1. This is a fantastic theatre. It is small but has a beautiful art deco interior. The afternoon tea is great.
